threeeyedmouse x Fonlon - WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?
By Caspar Louis (@Caspar_Louis)
This song is crazy. That bass carrying the song into the gritty Death Grips style madness… I needed to hear this, been a minute since we highlighted such an intriguing and unique song like this. I respect it a lot, this is what art is all about… pushing the boat out and being different.
Like I mentioned, it’s a bit Death Grips, it’s a bit Danny Brown, it’s a bit Nine Inch Nails… it’s cool as fuck man I like this a lot. Fonlon gives me Earl Sweatshirt vibes but more aggressive and gritty on this track. Been exploring Fonlon’s catalogue on Spotify and he’s FIRE, check this song Affirmative Revaltions… strong.
threeeyedmouse delivers a punchy and engaging intro with the production, with that leading bass I knew I was in for something special…. The drop then descends into some psychedelic chaos. I was thinking that the live show must be mental. I’m personally done with my days of mosh pits but I know this show would go off. I was digging into mouse’s production work and found this gem, give it a listen and tell me you haven’t just discovered a very dope producer.
threeeyedmouse has that raw and authentic aggression in his tone that is rare to come across these days, most are putting that on as part of a character fabrication but this guy is legit (although his lyrics suggest he’s not so sure about his own legitimacy).
“You must’ve thought that you were psychic, the way you live your life in my head and play a better me than I can.”
I love the honesty in threeeyedmouse’s lyrics… addressing his imposter syndrome and battling the insecurities of outside perception. Something that I myself battled with growing up but now I don’t give a fuck and have truly found my confidence… but I can relate to these lyrics in the sense that no matter how much success I get, there’s always that looming sense of doubt that you’re undeserved. One thing I can say for sure is that threeeyedmouse needs to do away with any insecurity because his work is a showcase of pure talent. He’s in the right place and he’s doing the right thing with this music.
This is a great introduction to the DKTM collective, who I’ll be watching with a keen eye from now on. Like most collectives, I have no idea who does what… but hopefully I’ll now be able to dig a bit deeper and see what they are about.
This is good shit man. I’m a BIG fan.
