Prince Wiser - Def Notes (Feat. Nico Woods)
By Caspar Louis (@Caspar_Louis)
I had to keep pulling up this track to fully take in Prince Wiser’s bars. His flow is so on point that you just get lost in it, you gotta go back and appreciate what he says. The honesty is authentic and his confidence is impeccable, “I doubt I’ll make a playlist, I doubt I’ll make it famous but I’ma be your favourite, I’ma be amazing.” That’s the attitude that makes a great artist, someone who does this because they want to be great at it, rather than just chasing and playing the industry game. “I’m not a Doja Cat but I’m in a dojo, just kicking back, Mojo Jojo kicking raps…” and then he just goes offfff with his impressive flow. Young rappers should look up to this man, get in the dojo and practice your craft.
“With a flow that’ll flip the current and change the direction of praise from the least deserving.” Oooooooooooh then Nico Woods comes in to make this partnership one I want to see more of. I think a live performance with these two would be one of the liveliest shows… I’m gna be hitting them up when I’m in NY or if they come to London… you better be ready because they’ll be on stage at a MNRCHY show (I hope).
This tune has it all. That classic New York sound combined with the authentic confidence from Prince Wiser and Nico Woods. Two artists who strive to perfect their craft, yet have the authenticity to keep it genuinely real alongside a dope boom bap vibe that hits you right in your nostalgic feels. Hats off to Album Kutz for bringing this one together, the production is on point… I’m a fan of all three of these guys now and they’ve revitalised my thirst for that classic NY sound, something I personally haven’t had since Joey Badass’ 1999 came out (that’s just me, don’t get upset). Probably because I haven’t been watching the scene for a while, but my eyes are open again thanks to this.
