Afro fusion has taken the wold by storm. From the days of me listening to D’banj and 2Face on my MP3 player (shoutout Limewire and my everlasting fear of computer viruses) on the school playground, in the early noughties, the culture has grown and spread internationally, the genre of Afrobeats has grown in variety, infused with dancehall notes, combined with grime/rap beats, a wholesome genre within a genre has come to be recognised and celebrated in the mainstream. Full of vibrancy, this genre, is one that creates a feeling of freedom, as with most music that originates in Africa, there is an electric appeal, almost vibrational, each beat pushes the listener closer to movement fuelled by fluid creativity.
A track that drew me into movement in such an extensive manner, is Bombay by Nizzy. The rhythmic beat, welcomes you into a collaboration of instrumental sound. In an almost trance like fashion, the beat itself carries the listener on a journey throughout the track, simulating movement in its fluidity. Inspiring the #BombayChallenge on social media, the tune is moreish in its element, indulgent yet bursting with energy so much that listeners can’t help but move to it.

The Nigerian born singer, based in the UK is excellent at creating invigorating sounds, very purposefully influencing movement. With his afro-centric sound, emulsified with soothing R&B tones, Nizzy creates music that can carry any mood, from sultry to upbeat and fiery, he showcases inspiringly creative versatility without losing any of the authenticity within his growth as an artist. He is not a newbie in this game, with a plethora of tracks in his discography, alongside exciting collaborations, including UK rap features with Eugy and Big Tobz, Nizzy showcases the level of quality and progression that comes from consistency and a true understanding of his artistic capabilities. This growth is more apparent than ever with this release.
