Continuing with the theme of good music coming out of the UK rap game, UKNWN and FixUpBoy are going a completely different direction, not really seen from many UK rappers and more American artists. Their single Casa is everything you see in the climate in hip hop today, with a UK twist to it. Now the beat is crazy, and the the lyrics are catchy as hell. The mood this song puts you in is kind of like a night life type of vibe, one where you’re in the club, popping bottles, and all that good noise. Either way you put it, I bet on these two blowing up with the type of music they are making, its for the masses, the fellas can listen and the ladies can listen as well, its a win-win situation for them.
With only a handful of artists coming out of the UK going the melodic route (Young Adz, WSTRN, NSG), these guys insert themselves in a small but fiercely competitive game going this route. But boy they are doing a solid job making listeners understand why they’re here to stay. Aside from establishing their presence in the music game today, this to me also showcases the integration of UK hip hop into the dominant scene in North America. This song proves to be an easy listen for us North Americans who are accustomed to a certain style, and this does not fall short to what pleases our ears.
My rating? A solid 8/10, again like I stated before, this song is an easy listen, the vibe is there, this is something that is made for everyone to nod their head to (except maybe children). I like the beat, I like the flow, I like the demeanour of these two artists, and although this is something seen day in and day out here in Toronto, this is something fresh for what we know to be the UK rap scene now. A proper way to expand what is an already dominating sound, this just only cements that the UK rap scene does not fall short of talent.
