This time I’m joined by my boy Jay to go through some of our submissions and share some fresh new talent. We don’t look for the complete song or the songs that are going to blow you away. We look for little intricacies or sounds/tones/styles within the song. We look ahead to the future and see the potential that these artists could have. All but one of the songs are in our Spotify playlist, so have a listen and follow the ones you like :)

* This list is not in any particular order. So Jayvaun, don’t get too excited.

1. Jayvaun: No Rebounds

Release date: 24 September 2020

No Rebounds by Jayvaun, brings more of a soul vibe to an r&b voice that is an easy listen. Think of it as a hybrid of Bryson Tiller / early Weeknd type vibe. The beat selection on this song is very well thought as well. This song is a hidden gem that should be found in more libraries.

2. JANE: NLT (WHAT ERYKAH SAID)

Release date: 25 September 2020

Incredible voice. Incredible production. I feel like this is a song I’ve been listening to for years. It feels like a Bonobo, Mount Kimbie or Floating Points song, one that I listen to during those spaced out car or taxi journeys. Jane’s song is about “The first time that you experience chemistry with someone who is not your partner.” and sets an unstable scene of lust, love and regret. Zone out to this and contemplate your moves.

3. Contra Banz: Ibadi

Release date: 15 August 2020

Coming right out of Nigeria, Contra Banz adds himself to a list of artists from that region of the world who are making waves in music right now. Staying true to his roots, he mixes hip hop and afro beats to bring Ibadi. This ones sure to grab your attention once it hits the speakers.

4. Buu Baby IV: Believe In Me

Release date: 17 August 2020

Buu Baby IV and his single Believe in Me brings a different sound. The sound that made the likes of Chance the Rapper, Amine and Anderson Paak, household names in music. This ones fun, he sounds comfortable and confident in his creation of his music. Be sure to check out what he has coming up in the future.

5. Burna Maleik: Reparations

Release date: 11 SEPTEMBER 2020

On Reparations, Burna Maleik gets straight to the point. The ominous beat gives a dark vibe to the song. But if you listen closer it shines light on the issues that are very much happening in the world today. A good show of expression, Burna Maleik lets loose, and truthfully, he will not stay silent.

6. Greta Lovia: Disconnect

Release date: 21 september 2020

I love how this song retains Greta’s cool, laid back jazz vibe whilst following a bit of a safer pop structure. The song is a relatable one, as we are all locked away from each other trying our best to maintain relationships, business and careers through our screens. I love her voice and am keen to hear more, but I’m keen to hear something a bit less pop from her. Saying that, check out her song 7am, really cool.

7. Ivoree Xavier: Scorpio

Release date: 18 SEPTEMBER 2020

When I first listened to Scorpio, truthfully I had to run it back and listen to it again. This song shows passion, that early 00s RnB type passion. You can tell that Ivoree Xavier poured his entire heart out into this song and it shows. The lyrics all seem too real to what most of us experience day to day. Keep an eye out for this artist, he has something special.

8. Jayvaun: All Day

Release date: 24 SEPTEMBER 2020

Jayvaun brings us another one with All Day, This one, unlike No Rebounds is more of a night life kind of track. Talking about strippers, spending money, and everything in-between it, Jayvaun attempts to have his listeners get in the zone with this one. Again his voice is something that hits, so be sure to check out what he has next in store.

9. 10k: Slow Down

Release date: 25 SEPTEMBER 2020

With Slow Down, 10K give us a more uplifting vibe. More of a chill, island, relaxing type vibe that we see from artists like Yxng Bane and WSTRN. This song is one for the summer person, the one who wants to have a good time, let loose and live life.

10. Ones: Gratidude always

Release date: 24 September 2020

This is fucking deeeeep. The opening voice of regret is one of the most emotional things I’ve heard recently. The pain of a parent that regrets the path of their family’s relationship is heartbreaking. I love and really appreciate Ones for sharing this perspective. It’s not a perspective we usually hear in music, so big up all the parents for their sacrifices. I get reminded of Jamie XX or Fred Again’s ability to present tearful emotion in such beautiful and uplifting production. Ones, we love you. This song is only available on Soundcloud, so listen here.
