I am a BIG BIG fan of Apollo Mighty already. After listening to Arrival, you have to go and listen to the other songs on his Behaviour EP (scroll down to listen).

This song feels like an immediate classic, something I sense was intended by the Mighty himself… his references to 90’s R&B combined with his music’s similarities to artists like Bryson Tiller or Jeremih gives his music a sense of timelessness. You can shuffle through this guy’s music and feel like you are shuffling through a top R&B playlist. The quality is phenomenal, you can hear his ability to switch up styles and the opportunities for collaboration appear endless for him.

Arrival is about the longing of that one person who you are completely open and honest with… something many of us can relate to as we are separated during lockdown. However this song has a much deeper pain that you can hear in Apollo’s tone. He talks about worrying for himself and his people because of the colour of their skin. The scene is set for him needing comfort from that one person who helps him get through those constant worries.

The backing vocals from Mr. Mayo build on the textures and the atmosphere and bring a female perspective into the picture. Maybe it shows us that the feelings of comfort are reciprocated.

Apollo Mighty is originally from Memphis but now based in Chicago. I hope to see a lot more from him. Stay tuned because he’ll be appearing on this site a lot.
