I find this time of year incredibly beautiful, as winter meets spring and as the evenings get lighter, with pink sunsets greeting, the evenings are full of abundance. After the year we have had, as we start getting ready for the world to re-open again, there is a ripple of serenity in the atmosphere, maybe this is born from the communal understand that we are coming out on the other side of a season of internal worry, somewhat like the calm after the storm. Whatever it is, I can feel it the moment I step outside after work. To coincide with this of course, my music of choice for the season is jazz-hop, lo-fi sounds that are like a continual build of soul, subtle but powerful - R&B that is emotive but soothing.

Recently, I came across an artist that is jazzy, soulful and soothing. Like a melodic poet, her sultry tones seduced me in a way that didn’t just take me somewhere else but created a whole mental environment that was idyllic yet familiar, the minute I popped my headphones in.

Monét is a 21 year old singer - songwriter from South East London, whose tones calmed me on an easy Saturday evening. Her mellow vocals on her latest tune, Just One Of Those Days, echoed as soft whispers in a slow and melodic manner, creating the most perfect seductive soft soulful atmosphere. With a herbal tea to hand, my essential oil diffuser pumping the refreshing aroma of eucalyptus in the background, this was the perfect tune to have on repeat as I de-compressed emotionally from the week.

This is a tune that showcases grace and growth, so mature in its exploration, it speaks from a place of balance that is aspirational but also attainable.

Monét has this incredibly mature sound, alongside her youthful essence, she is an energetic merge of the sultry confidence, and self esteem. The real beauty of this tune is found when you really take a moment to absorb the tune in its entirety. She speaks from a point that is entirely relatable. As though she walks you through her inner confidence as she grows and deals with life and love.

At the beginning of the tune, we get introduced to this as she comments on opening up “To a new layer of me” whereby the young Londoner proceeds to explain what this feels and looks like from her perspective in dealing with love. She sings from a point of contentment in herself and the situations she finds herself dealing with, alongside a sprinkle of her idyllic sensual experience with her muse, whilst not being distracted from her own self love.

The tune really sat with me for a moment. In my first listen I found myself soothed by her flirtatious vibe, sexy yet subtle and smooth. Perfect for a relaxing evening. However on my second listen, i had the advantage of being able to really unpack the tune, to really study the dimensions of the tune from her personal storytelling - more than a love song, this tune works as an ode’ to her own self love without taking away from her permission to feel and enjoy romance. This is a tune that showcases grace and growth, so mature in its exploration, it speaks from a place of balance that is aspirational but also attainable. Monét - Just One Of Those Days is available to stream now on all major platforms.
