Lagoon Wavey Lends Us His Silky Vocals On Latest Track ‘Occupied’

Lagoon Wavey new release ‘Occupied’

Shining the light for Bajan artists right now, is none other than elegantly tranquil vocalist and equally serious songwriter, Lagoon Wavey, also known by those close to him as Sir Wavey. Yet again, He’s bringing the vibes straight from Barbados with new track ‘Occupied’,a soothing soulful tune that spotlights his multifaceted abilities as a singer. Only needing to opt for a modest backing of tender guitar riffs and shy synths, he lets his voice illuminate all the emotional colours on this one.

Heritage and homage are crucial aspects of Lagoon Wavey’s identity as a musician. He’s an artist proud of where he comes from, and for very plausible reasons. Not only is he spun from a web of hard-hitting and all rounded talent, as grandson to cricketer legend Sir Garfield Sobers (sorry, we had to name drop that one), but on a wider scale, his homeland Barbados boasts an impressive history of profound musical and cultural influence felt across the globe. He commendably puts this pride into actionable practice, solely inviting fellow Bajan artists to join him on his steady cruise to the top. This includes Leejo, the credited producer on this latest release.

However, Lagoon Wavey has his eyes just as firmly fixed on the path ahead, as the one behind him. He unites past greatness and musical influence with future promise by stamping his own mark on style, genre and specifically voice, drawing together elements of R&B, electronic, and Reggaeton. Wavey has already proved his ability to comfortably lend his vocals to an assorted range of backing tracks and tempos, such as his unsuspecting Drum and Bass collaboration ‘Universe’ released with Redeyes back in 2021. It is this unique balance of old and new that helps him achieve the challenge of moulding meaningful mood into music. If you’re a fan of other male vocalists paving the way right now, from Brent Faiyaz to Giveon and Drake’s favourite duo, Majid Jordan, then Lagoon Wavey is one to lend your ear to.
