Alright so if you know me, alongside my fondness for my UK music, my Grime, my UK RnB, there lies a devout, undeniable, unapologetic love of music that comes out of the Caribbean islands. I mean, to be honest, quite frankly, I literally scream about my love for Soca and Dancehall music ( I mean of course I do, I literally have a whole radio show dedicated to the cause) because after claiming I am Newham born and bred, I am a Trinidadian babygyal in spirit and soul. So accordingly, give me a dancehall tune with a message of resilience & gratitude within it and I am in my bag. Picture me swaying across my room, whilst I absorb the song in all its nourishing entirety - yes it is as wholesome a picture as you perceive it to be.
Anyway, the tune that has me doing shoulder rolls as I type is the new tune Blessings by Busy Signal. I have committed to making sure I walk into 2021 with the best energy, ensuring that I brush off the less desirable moments of 2020. Due to this, my energy is excessively focused on having a brand new, motivational, good vibes playlist and if this isn’t fit to be the introducing tune, then I don’t know what is.
“It proclaims the importance of gratitude for the present and is an ode to the internal strength that we have all, not only grown in, but faced, head on, in the last year. ”
The beauty in this track is in its ability to uplift you immediately, the smooth, bouncy beat melts the listener into Busy’s soft yet bold vocals. In the vocals itself, there is a solid strength to his sound, blunt yet cushiony, his sound is distinctively fearless, a perfect merge of the subtle strength that we associate his voice with. Which then brings me on to the words of this tune… A story of strength, this tune is a vocalisation of positive affirmations. When I speak about a tune that walks you into purpose and productivity, this slots into that bracket like a glove. It proclaims the importance of gratitude for the present and is an ode to the internal strength that we have all, not only grown in, but faced, head on, in the last year. The tune cloaks the listener in a cloud of confidence as it acts as a reminder of the positive narrative that we need to hear, all on a catchy, bouncy beat.
Most of the us are very familiar with Busy Signal, his very distinguishing voice being one we have grown to know across the years. This showcases his versatility and more than that, speaks to the direction and introspective space that more and more artists are stepping into following the last year. This tune speaks to the resilient space that we are entering and are starting to occupy. It is simply symptomatic of the attitudes of positive anticipation that most of us have fallen into, meaning this tune is one that is not only representative of our current climate but, more importantly, speaks for the people, as a musical echo chamber.
This track takes you on a journey. The gentle, bouncy, jazzy TDA Riddim produced by Sheldon ‘Young Veterans’ Pennicott greets you. It builds into a joyful climb sprinkled with momentous instances, that injects the listener with energetic confidence. The tune is as confident and solid in its delivery as it is in its message. In a heartwarming form, it covers the listener in a cloak of assurance. Smooth, delicate yet solid in its essence, it creates a feeling of constant determination, perfectly suited as a touch of musical reassurance to motivate the listener.
As I mentioned, I am celebrating music that infuses me with positivity and confidence as we greet the new year, because personally a babygurl needs to reach these goals. So for me, this tune sits up there perfectly as one of the best tunes to start the year off with. So as I create my 2021 good vibes playlist, I encourage you to add it to your daily playlists, as a “good vibes for the day” track. Blessings by Busy Signal, produced by Young Veterans is available to stream on all major platforms.
