His songwriting career has clearly given Rook Monroe the opportunity to work with some prominent producers. For Pink and Purple, he recruited the duo Trackside, who have previously worked with Chris Brown, Tinashe and The Vamps. And they really helped bring this tune to life with upbeat melodies centred around a cheerful piano.

Speaking about the inspiration behind Pink and Purple, Rook says:

“It's human to feel but I feel and it scares me [...]. Too much emotion, too little emotion. It's a balance we long for and rarely achieve. One that we reflect on our whole lives and never fully understand. Whether everything seems to be going right or wrong, sometimes we feel the need to cry out... even if we're unsure who we're crying out to.”

This emotional insight shows that Rook Monroe’s music is full of heart, something which feels very true whilst listening to Pink and Purple. There is a feeling of true self-confidence and pure honesty in his music, which must have developed from writing for other artists.

I personally feel that what sets Rook Monroe apart from other artists is his vibrant retro sound, which doesn’t sound dated, but rather modern and refreshing. In some ways, his music is reminiscent of feel-good 70s pop music and you just know that the piano line would definitely get Elton John’s feet tapping.

If you like Pink and Purple, keep an eye out on his socials for his upcoming debut solo project because it is guaranteed to be a highly polished and exciting release. The currently untitled EP was created in collaboration with Trackside and will also feature a song made with Grammy-winning producer, Brendan O’Brien.
