lavender - peppermint / home:so long
By Ladina Sasha (@ladinamusic)
The London based duo are a combined influence of J Dilla, Bon Iver, Madlib, American Football and others…
Lavender’s video, which just dropped yesterday, is exactly what you’d expect - a visual representation of reminiscent summer feels, a fusion of spur-of-the-moment stillness and big city life, always accompanied by a hint of wondering, what one day might be.
Filmed by Tom Lamotte, the 2-in-1 video is a back-to-back of Lavender’s debut releases peppermint and home:solong. Whilst with other acts this might have felt unorthodox, it aligns with Lavender seamlessly, complementing their candid way of bringing new music into the world.
Pastel shades and heavily exposed overlay-effects fabricate a canvas that is a treat for our minds, encouraging us to get lost in nostalgia, wherever we are. Just like their music, effortlessly and unassuming, Lavender’s video takes us on a voyage, skipping from glimpses into London’s busyness to ordinary day-to-day park-jams and long nights with friends.
A juxtaposition of life in all its facets; restless rapidity and standing still, chasing dreams and giving in - it’s all a blur, yet, somehow, never feels disjoint. Glued together by organic shots, often with a slight vintage feel, the narrative does exactly what it’s supposed to: celebrate the simplicity of everyday life, leaving us somewhat grateful for the uneventful moments. Lavender get personal with this video, balancing behind-the-scenes-feels and down-to-earth attitude — a disarmingly unpretentious portrayal of what the duo is all about.
